How to Overcome a decline in email sign-ups to your Blog, Contest, etc...
Here's a the latest technique to boost your sign-up rate:
E-mail opt-in is getting harder.
So adding a (relatively) simple Facebook-Connect button, along with a basic app, will boost sign-ups.
In one recent test I saw the amount of sign-ups doubled from 40% to 81%.
How is this done?
1. Offer two ways to sign-up:
a. usual Name & email
b. Facebook Connect button
2. the email sign-up gets sent to your autoresponder/mailing system - as per usual
3. on-click, the Facebook connect button presents the person with a 'Fb Permission's screen', as seen here.

This screen is part of your app (that you have to register as a developer).
The App pulls the person's email. Which is the email they used to sign up for Facebook in the first place. So you know it's a verified email.
4. App. sends retrieved data back to step 2 (your auto-responder)
Very simple, yet very effective.
How is this different, you may ask?
Because constructing the simple Facebook app. gives you their email anyway - which some people have grown to be wary of due to spamming. When the person clicks "Allow", Facebook pulls their email address and hands it to you.
