Targeted Email Marketing

What does "too much email" mean?

This article, written by master B2B Copywriter Bob Bly is a great yardstick for determining how much email you can send out. Bob has been a master at b2b lead generation for over thirty years. He has taught many, now successful, copywriters achieve professional levels.

I've had the good fortune to have heard several of his seminars and spoken to him personally on occasion. This article was sent to me recently and because it's so valuable for all lead generation efforts, I'm re-publishing it here.

Emailing volume growth slowest in 11 months

The Retail Email Index: The top online retailers sent each of their subscribers 3.1 promotional emails on average during the week ending June 17, 2011. That’s up 2% week-over-week, down 4% from where it was four weeks ago, and up 6% year-over-year. That was the smallest year-over-year increase since last July.

Embedding video in your email campaigns

Email marketer Anna Yeaman recently created a very successful email campaign for Dressed-Up.com. She created two similar emails and tested the response rate. One had moving image, one didn't. The results:

  1. 250% open-rate increase
  2. 26% increase in click-through-rate.

Video in email is, as yet, not really possible because of spam filters.
