Google AdWords Remarketing: 5 tips to set up a successful and easily managed Campaign
- First of all, even though the code you will enter may look like a conversion tracking code – don't worry this is how Google set it up.
- It's probably a good idea to create a separate Campaign that's solely for remarketing. Later, when you get to grips with the AdWords remarketing concept you can always change this.
- You will need to get at least 500 people tagged before AdWords remarketing actually begins. To help this along you could do an email campaign that invites people to visit your site. Make sure your remarketing code is installed on the page that they land on before sending out the email!!
This will boost the amount of people that you tag on a rapid basis. Obviously, the bigger the email list, the faster the increase. In this way you can rapidly get some experience with what it actually means to re-target. - If any customer or visitor get too annoyed at being retagerted to, you can send them this link
http://www.google.com/ads/preferences
Have a look yourself. It presents the person with the option to opt out of any category that your remarketing might fall under. - You can choose to create a remarketing list from either a Campaign or Ad Group, OR
you can create without any relation to a particular campaign. See this Help file on how to do these steps.
I find it easier to just start with a clean sheet and create a list "newly" and independently from any existing Campaign. There is already so much going on in some Campaigns. Adding a completely new feature into the mix makes it messy. - BONUS: It's my opinion that it's probably better to use banner-ads and imagery in your remarketing campaign. This wil take some work of course. So while you are at it (or someone is design some banners for you)
a) create all the AdWords accepted image sizes and
b) make two versions of each banner - thereby doing a basic split-test. All images can be uploaded tthrough AdWords Editor, except for the mobile ad size 300 x 50. This you wil have to do manually through the account dashboard via a browser.
To your success!
